The Water Damage Restoration Process

Restoration works in a fixed order, and each stage depends on the one before it. Here is how a Hamilton project runs from the first phone call to the final review.

Five steps

What happens, and in what order

  1. 1

    Initial call and assessment

We ask what happened, when it started and whether the water is still arriving. On site the affected area is measured, the water category is established and meters and thermal imaging map how far moisture has travelled.

  2. 2

    Water source control

Drying cannot begin while water keeps entering. That may mean closing a fixture valve or the main supply, isolating a failed appliance, or arranging temporary protection where water is coming from outside.

  3. 3

    Water extraction

Pumps and extraction units remove standing water, then carpet and hard-surface extraction pulls trapped water out of assemblies. Removing water mechanically is far faster than waiting for it to evaporate.

  4. 4

    Drying and moisture monitoring

Air movers create airflow across wet surfaces while dehumidifiers remove the moisture that evaporation releases. Readings are logged on each visit and equipment is repositioned as materials reach dry standard.

  5. 5

    Cleaning, repairs and final review

Surfaces are cleaned and, where the water category requires, disinfected and deodorised. Removed materials are reinstated, contents are returned, and we walk the finished space with you and hand over the documentation.

Measured, not assumed

Why monitoring is part of the process

Equipment running in a room is not evidence of drying. Readings taken on the same reference points each day show whether materials are actually losing moisture, and they tell us when to reposition equipment or open a cavity that has stalled.
