Report the loss early
Contact your insurer or broker as soon as the damage is discovered and note the claim number, adjuster name and date. Most policies expect prompt notice and reasonable steps to prevent further damage, which is why mitigation begins before the adjuster attends.
What to capture yourself
Your own record of the scene before mitigation is valuable and cannot be recreated later.
- Wide photos of each affected room, plus close-ups of the source
- Video walkthrough narrating what happened and when
- Photos of damaged contents with model numbers where visible
- Receipts for emergency purchases, accommodation or repairs
- Dates and times: when it started, when it was found, when it stopped
What our documentation includes
For each project we assemble a file covering the assessment and water category, affected-area measurements, moisture readings by material and date, equipment type and placement, photos of pre-existing and progressive conditions, materials removed and why, and the scope of cleaning and reinstatement work.
Contents and pack-out records
Where contents are moved off site, items are inventoried and photographed, with condition noted and cleaning or disposal recommendations recorded. That inventory becomes the basis for the contents portion of a claim.
Keeping the claim moving
Share our documentation with your adjuster as it is produced rather than at the end, keep one folder for all correspondence, and ask your insurer to confirm approvals in writing before reinstatement begins. If the adjuster wants to inspect before demolition, tell us — we can protect and stabilise the area in the meantime.
A note on limits
We document conditions and work performed. We do not determine coverage, adjust claims or promise a specific outcome — those decisions belong to your insurer and the terms of your policy.
